Namibia’s Founding President described as a great unifier

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa and several other African leaders have hailed the late Namibian founding father, Dr Sam Nujoma as a unifying force in his country and the African continent.

They spoke during the state funeral held in honour of Pan Africanist and former Namibian president at Independence stadium in Windhoek this Friday.

“Dr Nujoma understood that true independence was not merely about political freedom but also about the economic liberation of the masses, the President Mnangagwa said.

“He showed us that leadership is not about power but service to the people with integrity, honour, and sacrifice.”

President Mnangagwa hailed Dr Nujoma as a true Pan-Africanist whose influence inspired liberation movements across the continent.

“His vision for freedom transcended borders, igniting the flames of resistance and hope in the hearts of many beyond Namibia,” he said.

“We must, in solidarity, build an Africa that would make Dr Nujoma and all our forebears proud,” he said.

“Let us honour him by ensuring that the young generation inherits a continent of opportunity, unity, and prosperity.”

Dr Nujoma, who died on February 8, at the age of 95, will be buried in Windhoek tomorrow.

He served Namibia as President between 1990 and 2005 and was among the few remaining African revolutionaries of his time.
