MOZAMBIQUE goes to the polls this Wednesday in an election where 47-year-old Daniel Chapo of the ruling FRELIMO party is facing three other candidates.
The other candidates are Ossufo Momade of the main opposition Renamo party, independent candidate Venâncio Mondlane and Lutero Simango of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM).
Frelimo, which has ruled Mozambique since independence from Portugal in 1975, is widely expected to win the election.
The ruling party held campaign rallies in Zimbabwe and South Africa as it seeks the diaspora vote that will be crucial in determining the country’s leadership and direction for the next term.
