THE late Colonel (Retired) Tshinga Dube, who was known as Cde Embassy during the liberation struggle, has been given a befitting send off after a military funeral parade was held in his honour at Imbizo Barracks in Bulawayo this Tuesday.
Chief mourner, Major General Emmanuel Matatu said the late National Hero will be remembered as a military genius who fought tooth and nail for his country’s independence.
“Cde Tshinga Dube played a pivotal role in the liberation of our country and his contribution will never be forgotten. He was a military genius who ensured that the army had ammunition and being pivotal in communications.”
Born on the 3rd of July in 1941 at Fort Usher in Matobo district of Matabeleland South province, Colonel (Rtd) Dube became involved in politics at a young age.
He trained as a guerilla fighter in the then Soviet Union in 1972 before playing a pivotal role in the liberation struggle, especially in the strategic area of military communications and arms procurement department for ZIPRA.
His contribution spilled over to post independence Zimbabwe where he became legislator for Makokoba constituency and cabinet minister in different portfolios.
Colonel (Rtd) Dube who died on Thursday last week in Bulawayo, will be buried at the Heroes Acre in Harare this Wednesday.
