It is back to business at Mbare Msika as thousands of traders who lost their wares during the tragic inferno have been given the green light to resume operations.
“We are happy with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his cabinets decision to support the affected families and allow us to resume business is highly appreciated, notes a trader,” said one trader.
“Our fears of being removed have been allayed, we have been allowed to go back and start work with the little that we have,” said another.
Earlier in the day the affected informal traders who lost their goods gathered at Mbare Msika where they were addressed by cabinet ministers on government interventions to assist them.
“We have been sent by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to hear your grievances, my ministry is moved by the plight of women affected by this fire, we will chip in with some funding to assist you to get back to businesses while Civil Protection Department have been tasked to mobilize emergencies such as food,” noted Senator Monica Mutsvangwa.
“We have heard from your leadership during closed door meetings that you want to stay put at your markets and resume your business- that we have agreed. Government has bigger plans which will see the market being transformed to Morden structures in the long term,” said the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable Daniel Garwe.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared the tragic situation at Mbare Msika a state of disaster in a development expected to see government, stakeholders and well-wishers assisting the traders get back on their feet.
