FORMER Premier Soccer League sides Hwange and Bulawayo Chiefs have brought a new dimension in the Southern Region Division One League as they are currently involved in a neck-and-tie tussle for promotion.

The two sides are on 19 points and separated by goal difference setting the stage for a photo finish.

Last season’s promotion into the topflight was sealed with games to spare in the three regions, while in the Northern Region, the race was sealed at the eleventh hour.

Southern Region Chairperson Lloyd Munhanga believes the league is headed for interesting times.

“So far, our competition has been very high obviously because we have three teams from the premier league and they have brought some good competition. We have got former PSL sides Hwange and Bulawayo Chiefs and a new entrant in the form of Bulawayo Warriors and perennial campaigners Cayman. So it’s quite a tough competition.”

A new entrant, Bulawayo Warriors on 14 points, one adrift of another former Premier Soccer League side Bulawayo City, are also within striking distance.

Competition has put a shadow on ambitious sides like Talen Vision and Casmyn.
