A 43-year-old man from Harare’s Highfield suburb has appeared in court facing charges of illegal mining and theft after he was allegedly found in possession of 12 kilogrammes of gold ore in Mazowe.
According to the State, the alleged offence occurred on June 17 at Zonke Resources Mining in Mazowe.
Prosecutors allege that Admire Chibhabase unlawfully entered Zonke Mine without the knowledge or permission of the mine manager, Mr Ernest Kasunungure.
It is further alleged that Chibhabase proceeded into one of the mine tunnels, where he began searching for gold ore.
The court heard that he was allegedly caught in the act and found in possession of 12 kilogrammes of gold ore before being arrested.
Chibhabase was granted bail of US$50 and is expected to return to court on July 13.
The matter remains before the courts.
