THE church has reaffirmed its commitment to complementing government efforts in fostering community development, with a strong focus on education infrastructure and nurturing good morals among children and young people.
Marere Primary School in Gokwe Chireya Constituency is the latest to benefit from the government’s partnership with the church, as works to refurbish classroom blocks destroyed by a storm are gaining momentum.
The development has brought relief to the community.
“This only shows that indeed the Second Republic is keeping its promise of leaving no one and no place behind. Our children were struggling as they had no classrooms since they were destroyed by the storm. It is an exciting time for us because now children will be motivated to come to school,” a beneficiary said.
The School Head, Mr Innocent Chigamba, said the refurbishment and construction of the new classroom blocks will be a huge step towards enhancing access to education.
“Our learners were congested, using just one block, and this was affecting how they learn. This development will ensure every child gets a chance to learn in a conducive environment,” Marere Primary School Head, Mr Innocent Chigamba noted.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints pledged to continue its philanthropic works across the country.”
“As a church, we believe in education; hence, we will continue to strengthen the quality of education through the provision of modern infrastructure. We are going to refurbish this school as well as build a new block so that there are eight classrooms to allow every grade to have its own class,” Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints Humanitarian Africa South Manager, Mr Tatenda Chiore said.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerai Moyo, who is also the legislator for Gokwe Chireya Constituency, spoke on how public-private partnerships are enhancing access to education.
“This Church, in particular, has built more than seven schools this year alone, and we are impressed because they are targeting underserved communities. Through their assistance, the government can surpass its target of building 120 schools this year,” he added.
This year, the government set a target to build 120 new schools countrywide to improve access to basic education.
