Former Zimbabwe long-distance runner, Letiwe Marakurwa has launched a book titled; ‘Running to America’ in Harare this Wednesday.
Marakurwa represented Zimbabwe in 5000m and 10 000m events for more than two decades after making her international debut in 1992 at the World Junior Cross-Country Championship.
The Dorowa-born and bred star retired in 2012, having showcased her talent at two All Africa Games, African championships and World Marathon championships, among other international and regional competitions.
Marakurwa, who is now based in the United States of America has decided to trade her spikes for the pen to inspire the African athlete.
“I had a long journey from the start to the top and this book is meant to inspire those athletes mainly African to follow their dreams. In the book, I share my story and experiences. Yes it is different, and everyone has their story but I hope it will inspire someone to work hard and not give up,” said, Marakurwa.
The former athlete has not forgotten where she came from as she consistently donates athletics equipment to schools in Dorowa where she was raised.
