THE FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the South African Football Association (SAFA) for having fielded an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, in the Bafana Bafana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Lesotho on March 21, this year.
Consequently, the match has been awarded to Lesotho on a 3-nil score line.
South Africa has therefore dropped to second in Group C with 14 points, the same as new group leaders Benin, with an inferior goal difference.
Lesotho are now on nine points, but they remain second from bottom, with Zimbabwe anchoring on four points.
Meanwhile, Warriors coach, Michael Nees, is set to announce the national squad to do duty in the final two World Cup Qualifiers against South Africa and Lesotho next month.
