A devastating road traffic accident along the Kwekwe-Gokwe Road Wednesday morning claimed 10 lives, with eight of the victims confirmed to be from Binga District, deepening grief in Matabeleland North Province just days after another fatal crash in Hwange.
Binga District Development Coordinator, Mr Land Kabone, confirmed to ZBC News that five of the deceased were from Chief Siabuwa’s area.
The tragedy comes on the heels of yet another fatal road accident in Hwange District over the weekend, which claimed eight lives, raising renewed concern over road safety on the country’s highways.
Wednesday’s accident occurred when a Trip Trans bus travelling from Binga to Harare collided head-on with a haulage truck moving in the opposite direction along the busy Kwekwe-Gokwe route.
