STUDENTS at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) have expressed support for the proposed Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill, citing its potential to enhance policy stability and minimise disruptions to academic programmes.
The students say the proposed amendments are aligned with national development priorities, particularly the Education 5.0 model, which emphasises innovation, industrialisation and the production of goods and services.
“As students, we fully support the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill because it complements the Education 5.0 model, which is anchored on innovation, industrialisation and national development. Policy consistency is critical for us to translate our academic knowledge into tangible economic outputs, and this amendment ensures that national programmes driving development are not disrupted,” Shackmore Banda said.
“Frequent elections often disrupt the academic calendar through closures, uncertainty and divided attention among students. Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill helps minimise these disruptions by promoting stability in governance, allowing us to focus on our studies and fully benefit from an uninterrupted learning environment,” Ashley Mashatise noted.
“Education 5.0 is preparing us not just to be job seekers, but job creators contributing to Zimbabwe’s industrial growth. For this vision to succeed, there must be stability and continuity in leadership and policy implementation. Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill provides that stability, ensuring that developmental momentum is sustained without unnecessary interruptions,” Rejoice Gurure added.
Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Chairperson, Honourable Mutsawashe Ziyambi, called on young people to rally behind the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill, citing its importance in sustaining youth development programmes.
“As Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, I urge young people to support Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill because it guarantees the stability needed to fully implement empowerment programmes, vocational training and skills development initiatives under the Ministry.
“These programmes are designed to equip youths with practical skills, create employment opportunities and drive national development. Sustained progress requires policy continuity, and this amendment ensures that young people continue to benefit without disruption.”
The call comes ahead of Parliament’s nationwide public consultations on the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill, where citizens, including youths, are expected to present their views on the proposed changes.
