Government has rallied local authorities to start implementing their masterplans to ensure improved service delivery, especially in rural communities.
In this regard, there is optimism of improved service delivery in Zvimba after the local authority capacitated its councillors with motorbikes and mobile phones.
The development was complemented by the commissioning of service delivery equipment that includes a grader, a fire tender truck, a borehole drilling rig and utility vehicles purchased using devolution funds and internally generated funds.
Zvimba Rural District Council (RDC) chairperson, Mr Spencer Magaya said, “The provision of motorbikes and mobile phones means our councillors can now monitor developments with no excuse regarding movements and communication.”
“We are serving our people who are in hard-to-reach communities, so this is a major boost,” added Councillor Zandile Maseko.
“This is a development which we are proud of as a local authority. We have capacitated our officers so that we swiftly respond to our people’s needs and requests,” Zvimba RDC chief executive officer, Mr Enias Chidhakwa said.
For Chief Zvimba, the development is a catalyst towards the attainment of Vision 2030.
“Our President is indeed walking the talk in the implementation of his developmental vision of leaving no one and no place behind. Zvimba is transforming so will be the livelihoods,” he said.
The Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable Daniel Garwe implored local authorities to start implementing their respective masterplans in line with Vision 2030.
“Our councillors are the backbone of our local government system. They are the first point of contact for our citizens and play a crucial role in addressing the needs and concerns of our communities. By providing these motorbikes and cell phones, we are equipping our councillors with the necessary tools to perform their duties more effectively and efficiently. This initiative will enable them to reach even the most remote areas, ensuring that no citizen is left behind.
“The provision of these motorbikes is not just about transportation; it is about enhancing service delivery. With improved mobility, our councillors will be able to respond more swiftly to the needs of their constituents, conduct regular visits to monitor projects, and ensure that services are delivered in a timely and efficient manner. This will lead to better governance and a higher quality of life for our citizens,” he said.
Government is on a drive to support the provision of service delivery through devolution funds which are anchoring rural transformation towards an upper-middle-income society by 2030.
