THE church has reaffirmed its commitment to complementing government efforts in fostering community development, with strong focus on education and nurturing good morals among children and youths.
The Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Mandadzaka denomination gathered in Bikita for their church conference which saw 60 pastors graduating, at the weekend.
Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony, ZCC Mandadzaka Church Leader, Bishop Mutendi Mutendi said churches’ mandate must go beyond spiritual guidance, extending to practical initiatives that uplift communities.
“As Zion Christian Church Mandadzaka we are happy that today 60 of our pastors are graduating here at Rueben Mutendi Theological Seminary and this is our Second graduation ceremony. As a church we feel obliged to play our part in ensuring upliftment of communities especially in the education sector and to instil good morals to our children whom we believe are perishing especially those who are into drugs and other vices,” he said.
Representing Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Ezra Chadzamira, Director for Coordination in his Office Ms Rosemary Chingwe said the church plays an important role in ensuring peace and unity in communities, as supported by Chief Budzi.
“The government recognises the important role of the church in ensuring peace and unity within our communities. They pray for our country, and their members also take part in community development programmes hence we work together. We are also working together with churches especially in the fight against drug and substance abuse which has become a menace in communities threatening development.”
Government and the church collaborate in various sectors, including education and health, among others.
