THE Zimbabwe national cricket team, The Chevrons made a statement of intent in the opening T20 International at Harare Sports Club after beating world champions India by 13 runs this Sunday.
The freshly crowned world champions tasted their first defeat after their conquest at the World Cup as they choked Zimbabwe’s Chevrons at Harare Sports Club.
India thought they had their work cut out after Zimbabwe could only manage a paltry 115 runs in their 20 overs, but an exceptional display of discipline threw the world champions out of the match.
Coming in to bat, India thought they had the upper hand, but saw a contrast when Abhishek Sharma was bowled out without a single run on the board.
That was a signal to the Indian batters that the small target was far from touching distance as their scoreboard too had four ducks as Sikandar Raza and Tendai Chatara slit through India’s scorecard.
Raza and Chatara claimed three scalps apiece with the latter sealing the victory for the Chevrons at the dearth with a wicket to hand Zimbabwe a 13-run victory of the world champions.
Both teams will be back in the hunt tomorrow at the same venue with India eyeing a return while Zimbabwe chase to increase their lead in the five-match series.
