IN a groundbreaking move that promises to reshape the future of Zimbabwean football, CAPS United signed a landmark three-year sponsorship deal with Green Dollar Coin, worth US$4 million.
The partnership, which kicks off in January 2026, is a game-changer for the Green Machine, which has long struggled with financial challenges.
The deal is a major vote of confidence in the club’s potential, and CAPS United president Farai Jere believes it marks the beginning of a new era for the team.
“We are laying a strong foundation for CAPS United and our partner. We are building a powerful institution which will make its fans very proud. This is a game-changing moment in the history of football, and it is the start of something that will shape our football in the country. The results will be for our stakeholders to see, and at the heart of it, it’s going to be a competitive CAPS United, winning trophies and being successful,” he said.
The sponsorship deal will provide much-needed financial support to the team, enabling them to invest in player welfare, infrastructure development, signing-on fees and youth development structures.
As part of the agreement, CAPS United will also receive two modern buses expected to be unveiled in the next three months.
For Coach Ian Bakala, the deal could not have come at a better time.
With just six games left in the season, CAPS United’s fate hangs in the balance, and a win against Dynamos in the upcoming Harare Derby on Sunday could be crucial in their bid to avoid relegation.
“For now, I am focused on the games ahead. We need to take it one game at a time and make sure we get the maximum points. The sponsorship deal will be real business for us next year, and we will make sure we make the most of it,” Bakala noted.
The partnership is part of a larger development in Zimbabwean football, with the Harare City Council leasing Gwanzura Stadium to CAPS United.
