Bulawayo’s Mahlalela becomes social media comedy sensation

BULAWAYO-based comedian, Mahlalela, born Mthulisi Moyo, has emerged as a standout figure in the country’s creative arts sector, captivating audiences and amassing over half a million followers across various social media platforms.

The 43-year-old performer, who began honing his craft at Sigola Primary School, attributes his meteoric rise to years of dedication and collaboration with leading comedians from both Zimbabwe and South Africa.

“This industry requires patience and individuals who are not in it for quick money. I have been in the game for a long time, working with various artists. Comedy is in me it is a talent that thrives on discipline and respect,” he said.

Mahlalela has also become known for his signature outfit, which has become a recognisable part of his public persona.

He further revealed that outside comedy, he is skilled in operating a wide range of mining machinery.

“The shirt you are referring to is just part of my identity as an artist. Beyond comedy, I am qualified to drive different types of mining equipment,” he explained.

Often performing alongside fellow creative Rejoice Dlamini, popularly known as Nkosikazi, Mahlalela’s popularity is a testament to Bulawayo’s continued role as a breeding ground for artistic talent.
