THE Bulawayo Basketball League (BBL) is targeting to strengthen its grassroots structures by involving schools and tertiary institutions in its league.
The 2024/25 playing season saw St Columbus and the Zimbabwe School of Mines joining the league.
Bulawayo Basketball Association’s chairperson, Mthandazo Mono said they look forward to an exciting season which should see teams from their league competing for the national championships.
“It is going to be an exciting season. Our intention has always been to spread the game and we are happy to note that schools are beginning to see the vision. We want more schools to be part of it and in that way, we will develop the sport.”
Bulawayo Basketball Association’s secretary general, Francis Dube said they look forward to new teams challenging for honours.
“It is good to be back, we had our AGM and we now look forward to the competitions. We had some refresher courses for our officials.”
The new participants are looking forward to an exciting season.
“St Columbus has been known for academic excellence. We are just doing a shift to sporting excellence and we are happy to be part of the BBL,” said a participant.
“We look forward to rub shoulders with the best, but we are ready for the challenge,” added another.
Last season, Lakers Talen Vision and Lakers Mzansi dominated in the men and ladies section.
