HARDROCK maintained their grip on second place in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab Stadium on Matchday 25 this Sunday
The visitors drew first blood just three minutes into the contest when Prince Dube found the net to give Hardrock a 1-nil lead.
However, the hosts refused to buckle and levelled matters seven minutes before the break when Farai Madhananga unleashed a raffled shot that flew into the back of the net, sending the home faithful into raptures as the sides went into halftime locked at 1-1.
With the match seemingly headed for a share of the spoils, Gerald Takwara had other ideas after he popped up in the 89th minute to fire home the decisive goal, sealing all three points for the Kasongo Boys and breaking Ngezi Platinum hearts in the dying moments.
The victory sees Hardrock remain in second place on the log with 48 points, four points adrift of pace-setters Scottland, who sit pretty at the summit with 52 points.
Elsewhere, it was a mixed bag of results across the country’s stadia.
At Sakubva Stadium, Manica Diamonds edged Triangle United 1-0 to ease their relegation worries, while Agama boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 away win over Simba Bhora at Wadzanai Stadium.
Herentals College continued their push for a top-four finish with a narrow 1-0 victory away to FC Hunters, Bulawayo Chiefs claimed a 1-0 triumph over ZPC Kariba at Luveve Stadium, and TelOne claimed a crucial 1-0 win against CAPS United at Ascot Stadium to keep their faint survival hopes alive.
