THE ZIFA Central Region Soccer League has launched the inaugural Dream Inn-GMI Super 8 Challenge Cup, a new knockout competition aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Division One football while attracting increased private sector investment into the game.
The tournament will feature the top eight teams at the halfway stage of the league season and carries a total prize fund of US$16 000, giving clubs an additional opportunity to compete for silverware and financial rewards.
The quarter-final fixtures will see Kwekwe United face Super Strikers, Chapungu take on Tongogara, West Nicholson meet Gwanda Pirates, while Blanket Mine host Grain Tigers.
The introduction of the Dream Inn-GMI Super 8 Challenge Cup adds a new competitive dimension to the Central Region Soccer League.
Organisers hope the tournament will become a permanent fixture on the domestic football calendar and eventually expand, while strengthening the local game through increased corporate support.
