THE Kasambabezi Border Post in Binga has been officially commissioned, marking a significant step in Zimbabwe’s drive to strengthen regional connectivity, facilitate cross-border trade and improve public service delivery.
Vice President Colonel (Retired) Dr Kembo Mohadi presided over the commissioning ceremony on Friday, officially opening the modern facility, which is expected to improve the movement of people and goods while deepening social and economic ties between communities on both sides of the Zambezi River.
Construction of the border post began in October 2025 and was completed in May this year, reflecting the Second Republic’s commitment to expanding infrastructure in previously marginalised areas such as Binga.
The facility is expected to stimulate trade, tourism and investment while bringing essential government services closer to border communities, in line with the country’s decentralisation and inclusive development agenda.
Designed with future expansion in mind, the border post is equipped to host the Online Border Management System (OBMS), a digital platform that will integrate all border agencies into a single operating system.
The system is expected to reduce clearance times for travellers and commercial cargo, curb revenue leakages, improve transparency to combat corruption, and strengthen national security through enhanced data-driven monitoring.
