FIDELITY Gold Refinery has signed corporate governance and individual integrity pledges with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), as government intensifies efforts to promote transparency, accountability and ethical corporate governance.
The signing ceremony, held in Harare on Wednesday, forms part of a broader anti-corruption drive targeting institutions that play a strategic role in Zimbabwe’s economic development.
ZACC General Manager for Prevention and Corporate Governance, Mrs Clara Makotyo, said the initiative aligns with President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s declaration of zero tolerance for corruption and the Commission’s constitutional mandate to prevent corrupt practices.
“As we are aware, His Excellency President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa declared zero tolerance for corruption. And as ZACC, we are constitutionally mandated to take the lead in the fight against corruption.
“This is why we are trying to come up with all possible strategies that would assist the country to achieve zero tolerance to corruption. Today we are facilitating the signing of integrity pledges by Fidelity employees, the board and integrity committee members. The whole idea is to build a society and a culture of zero tolerance to corruption,” she said.
Fidelity Gold Refinery General Manager Mr Peter Magaramombe said the organisation voluntarily engaged ZACC to strengthen ethical standards across its operations.
“We invited the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission to come and train us on issues of integrity. As an institution, we understand that for Zimbabwe to benefit from its mineral resources, we need to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency and accountability so that the nation fully benefits from its mineral wealth,” he said.
The integrity pledges are expected to reinforce ethical conduct within the refinery while supporting government’s efforts to ensure the country’s mineral resources are managed responsibly and contribute meaningfully to national development.
