THE Health Professions Authority of Zimbabwe (HPAZ) and the country’s Health Professional Councils have strengthened their commitment to transparency, accountability and ethical governance after signing Integrity Pledges with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).
The initiative also saw the establishment of Integrity Committees within HPAZ to strengthen internal systems aimed at preventing corruption, promoting ethical conduct and safeguarding the integrity of Zimbabwe’s healthcare regulatory framework.
Authorities say a transparent and corruption-free regulatory environment will improve investor confidence, strengthen public trust, enhance compliance among health institutions and create an enabling environment for quality healthcare delivery.
ZACC Deputy Chairperson Commissioner Mrs Chido Madiwa said the Integrity Pledges go beyond a symbolic commitment.
“The Integrity Pledges are not merely symbolic documents, but a public commitment by the Authority and its councils to uphold professionalism, fairness and accountability in carrying out their statutory responsibilities,” she said.
Health Professions Authority of Zimbabwe Chairperson Professor Joconiah Chirenda said effective governance is critical to maintaining high professional standards in the health sector.
“Governance is fundamental to delivering quality healthcare, protecting patients and ensuring that health institutions operate according to the law and professional standards. Board members and management should uphold these values in every aspect of their work,” he said.
The signing of the Integrity Pledges aligns with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030, which prioritises accountable institutions, sound corporate governance and efficient public service delivery.
Officials say the initiative is expected to strengthen public institutions while supporting the delivery of quality healthcare services through improved transparency and ethical governance.
