ZANU-PF launches final push for Victoria Falls municipal by-elections

ZANU-PF Political Commissar Cde Munyaradzi Machacha has urged Victoria Falls residents to vote for the ruling party’s candidates in the municipal by-elections scheduled for August 1, saying the party is best placed to sustain the city’s development.

Addressing supporters at a campaign rally in Chinotimba, Victoria Falls, on Friday, Cde Machacha said ongoing investment projects require councillors who support the city’s development agenda.

“There are massive investments taking place in Victoria Falls. A smart city is currently under development, while Victoria Falls has also been designated as a Financial Services Centre. These developments require ZANU-PF councillors who understand development and can consolidate these gains. We therefore call upon all of you to vote for ZANU-PF,” he said.

Victoria Falls Mayor Cde Lungile Nyoni, who recently defected from the opposition to ZANU-PF, expressed confidence the ruling party would win all three contested wards.

“I am back home in ZANU-PF. I was born and raised in ZANU-PF. Nothing meaningful came out of the opposition during the years I was there. Come August 1, ZANU-PF will win all three seats,” he said.

Former Victoria Falls Mayor Cde Somvelo Dhlamini said the electorate would back the ruling party.

“The opposition is not development-oriented and, for that reason, the electorate will reject it next month. ZANU-PF will win,” he said.

Another former mayor, Cde Pandya Dilipkumar, also predicted victory for the party.

“On the evening of August 1, we will be celebrating. ZANU-PF has spearheaded significant development in Victoria Falls, and that is resonating with the electorate,” he said.

The Victoria Falls municipal by-elections for Wards 9, 10 and 11 will be held on August 1 following the recall of the sitting councillors by the Citizens Coalition for Change party.
