MATOBO Rural District Council has commissioned 34 motorbikes for councillors and three service delivery vehicles to improve mobility, strengthen local governance and enhance service delivery across the district.
The fleet was commissioned during a ceremony in Maphisa on Friday, officiated by the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable Albert Mavunga.
Provincial Development Committee member Zacharia Jusa said the acquisition marks a significant step in improving the council’s operational capacity.
“Today’s ceremony marks another important milestone in the development journey of Matobo Rural District Council. The commissioning of these motorbikes and service delivery vehicles is about improving the council’s capacity to serve its people efficiently, effectively and timeously,” he said.
Matobo Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer Elvis Sibanda said the development would enhance efficiency in the district.
“Today marks another historic milestone towards improving service delivery and enhancing efficiency within our district following the successful hosting of the 46th Independence celebrations,” he said.
Councillors also welcomed the initiative, saying it would improve access to communities.
“Travelling was difficult. I think this will give us a chance to fulfil our duties in our villages,” Ward 11 Councillor Joel Ncube said.
Deputy Minister Mavunga said the investment reflects Government’s commitment to strengthening local authorities.
“Today’s event is a demonstration of Government’s unwavering commitment to building capable and citizen-centred local authorities that are equipped to deliver quality services to every Zimbabwean, regardless of where they live,” he said.
The newly commissioned fleet is expected to improve councillors’ mobility, strengthen local governance and enhance service delivery throughout Matobo District.
