ZIMBABWE’S whitewater rafting team has left for Sagana, Kenya, where it will compete at the 2026 African Rafting Championships from 6 to 13 July as part of the 2026 World Rafting Cup Series.

The national team comprises Philani Moyo, Nalishebo Mathe, Kingleon Moyo and Liberty Moyo, who travelled by road from Victoria Falls to Kenya ahead of the continental competition.

Team captain Philani Moyo expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness, saying the athletes are eager to test themselves against Africa’s best.

He said the team has previous experience in the World Rafting Cup Series, understands the demands of the competition and is proud to represent Zimbabwe on the continental stage.

The championships will be held on Kenya’s Tana River, where teams will compete in the Sprint, Raft Cross and Slalom events while earning points towards the overall World Rafting Cup Series standings.

The 2026 World Rafting Cup Series features four events scheduled for France, Italy, Kenya and Brazil.

Zimbabwe will be seeking continental honours while building on its reputation as one of the world’s leading whitewater rafting destinations, with the Zambezi River widely recognised as one of the premier rafting venues globally.
