Chicken Inn target back-to-back wins in Hardrock clash

PREMIER Soccer League side Chicken Inn return to Luveve Stadium this weekend seeking to build on their recent resurgence when they take on in-form newcomers Hardrock.

The Gamecocks are back at their traditional home ground for what promises to be a demanding encounter against a Hardrock side enjoying an impressive debut campaign.

Both teams head into the fixture buoyed by important victories. Hardrock thrashed ZPC Kariba 4-0 in their previous outing, while Chicken Inn snapped a six-match winless run with a 2-1 away victory over Triangle United.

Midfielder Joseph Tulani said the team is eager to capitalise on the momentum generated by the win over Triangle United.

“It’s a big game for us, but we are motivated by playing at Luveve. We are happy the game is coming after we posted a win away from home,” he said.

Attacker Innocent Masiiwa believes the squad is well prepared and determined to improve its points tally in the second half of the season.

“We have prepared well for the game. We expect to collect more points in the second half of the season. The boys are in high spirits, and our return to Luveve should see us snatch a win,” he said.

Coach Tonderai Ndiraya said the return to Luveve carries special significance for the club as they seek to make home advantage count against one of the league’s surprise packages.

“It is good to be back at our home ground. Bulawayo is our home, but Luveve is the venue that identifies with us. We face Hardrock, a team that has invested heavily in personnel, and you can see they are doing well. It is a tough match, but we are banking on home advantage and the confidence gained from the win against Triangle,” Ndiraya said.

Chicken Inn have been rebuilding after narrowly avoiding relegation last season and are expected to bolster their squad when the transfer window opens.

Former Highlanders midfielder Godknows Makaruse is among the players reportedly being considered as the club looks to strengthen key areas.

Meanwhile, Matchday 20 gets underway on Friday with log leaders Scottland hosting Manica Diamonds at Rufaro Stadium.

Saturday’s fixtures will see Simba Bhora take on TelOne at Wadzanayi Stadium, FC Platinum host FC Hunters at Mandava Stadium, MWOS face Highlanders at Ngoni Stadium, while CAPS United meet Triangle United at Rufaro Stadium.

On Sunday, AGAMA host Herentals at Wadzanayi Stadium before Dynamos clash with Bulawayo Chiefs at Rufaro Stadium.
