ZANU PF Masvingo Province has reaffirmed its support for the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, expressing confidence that the proposed legislation will secure parliamentary approval amid growing backing from party structures and legislators.

The position was reiterated during the party’s Provincial Inter-District Meeting held in Masvingo on Saturday, where delegates also discussed preparations for National Cell Day and other organisational matters.

Addressing party members, ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Chairperson, Senator Robson Mavhenyengwa said the province remained firmly behind the proposed amendment.

“Today, we convened a Provincial Inter-District Meeting here in Masvingo in line with our party guidelines, where we discussed a number of issues, including preparations for National Cell Day. We also reaffirmed our support as a province for the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, which is currently being debated in Parliament. As a province, we fully support the Bill and are confident that it will ultimately be passed by Parliament. We are also encouraged by the support the Bill is receiving from legislators,” said Senator Mavhenyengwa.

ZANU PF Politburo member Cde Lovemore Matuke said the support being witnessed across the country reflects public backing for the proposed legislation.

“We are pleased that after the party agreed that the Constitution should be amended, the people of Zimbabwe supported that position, as reflected during the consultation process. We are also witnessing that support in Parliament. Those opposing the Bill are clearly going against the will of the people. Zimbabwe is a democratic country and citizens have been given the opportunity to express their views, which have shown strong support for Constitutional Amendment No. 3,” said Cde Matuke.

Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira said the support for the Bill demonstrates confidence in the country’s development agenda.

“The support that the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill is receiving clearly shows that Zimbabweans acknowledge the work being done by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to develop the country. Significant progress has been made across various sectors of the economy, and people want to see these development initiatives completed as we work towards Vision 2030,” he said.

ZANU PF Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs, Cde John Paradza said the proposed amendment emanates from resolutions adopted at previous party conferences.

“As a party, we adopted Resolution Number One during our conferences in Bulawayo and Mutare, which culminated in the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill. We are encouraged by the progress made so far and remain confident that the Bill will be passed,” he said.

The meeting concluded with a call for party members to strengthen grassroots structures and continue supporting development initiatives across Masvingo Province.
