THE late Brigadier General (Retired) Donald Silundi Tshuma has been declared a national hero.

The message on the conferment was delivered to the Tshuma family by Bulawayo Metropolitan Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Judith Ncube, in Bulawayo this Thursday evening, saying it is in honour of his sacrifice and service to the nation.

“The government and President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa have seen it worthy to accord national hero status. His works speak for him.”

The National Hero will always be remembered for his principled stance, wide military experience and dedication to his country’s liberation and development.

The family expressed gratitude to government for the honour.

Brigadier General (Rtd) Tshuma first served the country during the liberation struggle and at independence, he was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army, where he rose through the ranks to become Brigadier General.

He died on May 15 at his home in Nkulumane, Bulawayo, and will be buried at the National Heroes Acre on a date to be advised.

The late Brigadier General (Rtd) Tshuma is survived by four children.
