HARARE sides Harare Kings and Vixens were crowned champions at the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe National Championships, underlining the capital’s continued dominance in local basketball.
The three-day tournament, held in Bulawayo, saw Harare Kings clinch the men’s title with a commanding 82–40 victory over JBC, while Vixens secured the women’s crown after beating UZ Sparks 48–32.
Harare teams have largely controlled the championships in the post-COVID-19 era, with the only recent interruption coming last year when Wolves lifted the women’s title.
BUZ Competitions Commissioner Francis Dube praised organisers for delivering a successful tournament across multiple venues.
“We are very excited with what has been happening over the past three days. We thought it would be a challenge to cover all the games because of the number of teams, but we had three venues, Girls College, Eveline, and the BCD main court,” he said.
The championships serve as a key pathway for Zimbabwean teams to qualify for regional competitions, providing exposure and development opportunities.
Attention now shifts to continental ambitions, with Harare Kings set to compete in the Basketball Africa League qualifiers later this year.
