President Mnangagwa reassigns Permanent Secretaries in key ministries

CHIEF Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, has announced a raft of senior Government appointments and reassignments approved by President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The changes made in terms of Section 205(1) of the Constitution affect key Permanent Secretary positions across several ministries.

Mr Simon Masanga has been reassigned as Permanent Secretary for Environment, Climate and Wildlife, while Dr Thomas Utete Wushe takes over as Permanent Secretary for Mines and Mining Development.

Ambassador Tadeous Chifamba assumes the role of Permanent Secretary for Industry and Commerce, with Mr Pfungwa Kunaka appointed Permanent Secretary for Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare. Professor Obert Jiri has been named Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development.

President Mnangagwa has also made new appointments in terms of Section 205(1), as read with Section 340 of the Constitution. Dr Prosper Matondi becomes Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Lands and Rural Development, while Dr Shingirayi Mushamba has been appointed Permanent Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Harare Metropolitan Province.

In terms of Section 104(2) of the Constitution, the President has appointed Member of Parliament Tsitsi Zhou as Deputy Minister of Lands and Rural Development.

Further changes were made to the Health Service Commission in accordance with Section 320 of the Constitution, as read with the Health Service Act. Mr Ernest Manyawu and Lieutenant Colonel Lioba Gunduza have been appointed Commissioners, while Dr Rugare Kangwende’s contract has been renewed as Deputy Chairperson.

The appointments are effective from May 1.
