Magaya fraud trial postponed to June 5

Story by Parvel Makona

PROPHETIC Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries founder, Walter Magaya’s trial has been postponed to June 5 to allow the state to finalise investigations into his fraud case.

Magaya was jointly charged with his wife Tendai, when they appeared in court facing 13 counts of fraud linked to a multi-million-dollar church housing project that allegedly failed to materialise.

The charges extend to the couple’s companies Planet Africa (Pvt) Ltd and Yadah Connect (Pvt) Ltd, represented by operations manager, Tatenda Chinguwa.

The matter was deferred after prosecutors indicated that they were yet to finalise investigations into the allegations before proceeding with trial.

According to the State, between 2016 and 2018, Magaya and his co-accused allegedly defrauded congregants from PHD Ministries and other citizens after falsely claiming to have secured land for residential stands and investment projects across the country.

The locations that were cited included Chishawasha, Westgate, Norton, Arcturus, Ruwa, Manyame, Nyatsime, Mutare, Kwekwe and Bulawayo.

The co-accused are expected back in court on June 5 for continuation of the matter, pending completion of investigations by the State.
