THE Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) has reinforced its zero-tolerance stance on drug and substance abuse, warning that indiscipline will not be tolerated within the force.
The message was delivered by AFZ Chief of Staff Supporting Services, Air Vice Marshal Selebale Masera, during an investiture ceremony for newly promoted officers at AFZ Headquarters in Harare on Thursday.
He urged members of the military to remain disciplined and avoid drug and substance abuse, stressing that a professional and focused defence force is essential to national development.
Air Vice Marshal Masera said the AFZ would act decisively against any personnel found engaging in conduct that undermines the institution’s values, including the use of illicit substances.
He emphasised that discipline, integrity and professionalism remain the cornerstones of military service.
The remarks were made as officers, including Wing Commander Olivia Gahadzikwa, were formally recognised following their promotions.
Addressing the newly promoted officers, Air Vice Marshal Masera called on them to uphold the highest standards of leadership and serve as role models within the force.
His comments come as the AFZ intensifies measures to combat drug and substance abuse within its ranks.
These efforts include rigorous screening and testing procedures for prospective recruits, as well as strengthened internal monitoring systems aimed at preserving the institution’s operational readiness and ethical standards.
The initiative forms part of broader national efforts to address the scourge of drug and substance abuse, particularly among young people and key sectors of society.
