ZIMBABWE is set to make its eighth appearance at the prestigious Venice Biennale, with five local artists preparing to showcase their work on one of the world’s most celebrated art platforms.

The country’s pavilion, titled Second Nature, will feature works by Gideon Gomo, Eva Raath, Franklyn Dzingai, Felix Shumba and Pardon Mapondera.

Their exhibition will explore themes of adaptation, transformation and resilience in a rapidly changing world.

Curated by Fadzai Muchemwa and commissioned by Raphael Chikukwa, the showcase forms part of the 61st edition of the Biennale, which opens next week in Venice, Italy.

The exhibition aligns with the Biennale’s overarching theme, In Minor Keys, and examines how societies, identities and communities evolve in response to technological advancement and social change.

Zimbabwe’s participation places the country firmly within a global artistic dialogue, offering local artists an opportunity to engage with international audiences, collectors and curators.

It also reinforces Zimbabwe’s growing reputation as a significant contributor to contemporary African art on the world stage.

The country’s continued presence at the Venice Biennale reflects its commitment to promoting cultural diplomacy and celebrating the creativity of its artists internationally.
