THE Secretary-General of UN Tourism, Shaikha Al Nowais, arrived in Victoria Falls on Sunday for high-level engagements aimed at advancing sustainable and inclusive tourism.
Her visit comes as Zimbabwe strengthens its position as a key player in the global tourism sector and prepares to host two major international tourism events this week.
Shaikha Al Nowais was received by the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Barbara Rwodzi, who reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to international cooperation in tourism development.
Also arriving for the meetings was William Rodríguez López, Tourism Minister of Costa Rica and Chairperson of the Committee on Tourism and Sustainability.
Zimbabwe will host the 23rd UN Tourism Committee on Tourism and Sustainability from April 27 to 28, followed by the second UN Tourism Regional Congress on Women Empowerment in Tourism in Africa from April 29 to May 1.
The back-to-back gatherings will place Victoria Falls at the centre of global discussions on sustainability, inclusion and innovation in the tourism sector.
