Two Harare men have been sentenced to an effective 14 months in prison after being convicted on 10 counts of assaulting officials from the Judicial Service Commission during an eviction operation.
Thulani Mamhunga (18) and Kudakwashe Mususa (25), both of Stoneridge Park, were each handed a 20-month sentence, with six months suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The court heard that on 9 October last year, a team from the Harare High Court, including JSC employee Farai Marwa (21), was carrying out evictions in the area when the two men, accompanied by other suspects still at large, confronted them.
The group allegedly resisted the process and attacked the officials using wooden sticks and tree branches.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest and subsequent conviction of the two accused.
