Three hospitalised after Chimanimani shooting, suspect on the run

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a manhunt for a 30-year-old man wanted in connection with an attempted murder case in Chimanimani, where three people were shot and injured.

Police identified the suspect as Francis Makuma Magirayano, who is alleged to have carried out the shooting on April 18 following a domestic dispute with his wife, Mercyline Mahembe (26).

In a statement, national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspect, believed to have recently returned from South Africa, was driving a silver Toyota Fortuner with registration number JV 70 SM GP.

“The ZRP is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of Francis Makuma Magirayano (30) who is wanted in connection with a case of attempted murder which occurred on 18/04/2026 in Chimanimani,” Commissioner Nyathi said.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly shot three victims with a firearm during the incident.

“The victims include his wife whom he shot multiple times on the cheek, hand and thigh, his sister-in-law whom he shot on the leg and a shopkeeper at a shop at Kopa Business Centre,” the statement read.

All three victims are currently admitted to hospital in Chipinge, where they are receiving treatment.

Police are now appealing to members of the public to assist with information that may lead to the suspect’s arrest.
