THE business community has backed policy continuity under the Constitutional Amendment No.3 Bill, saying the proposed seven-year framework under clauses 4, 9 and 10 is key to sustaining economic stability and growth.
Business leaders say continuity will provide certainty for planning and executing projects, while consolidating gains recorded in recent years, including single-digit inflation, currency stability, infrastructure development and increased production across key sectors under the National Development Strategy Two (2026–2030).
“History always shows us that whenever we have elections the General businesses trends decline in this country so it is merely in the interests of continuity that this Constitutional Amendment No.3 Bill is passed into law because this will enable us to further continue with our businesses riding from the current gains that have seen us enjoying stable macroeconomic conditions,” said business executive Mr George Sadziwa.
Another business executive, Mr Josiah Chiwandikwa said stability has enabled firms to plan effectively.
“As business we have benefitted from several interventions by the Second Republic such as stable prices, exchange rate and overall economic performance this has enabled us to plan so any further disruption to that might have negative results on the overall trajectory so let us continue with what is obtaining and see to it that this translates to increased economic activity that benefits the entire nation,” he said.
Infrastructure contractor Engineer Pius Bhebhe said ongoing projects are already stimulating economic activity.
“Look at all the Infrastructure that is on course in this country, it shows that more effort is being put towards reenergising the economy this is also benefitting us so why can’t we just continue like that because it is these Infrastructure activities that are firming the hallmark for sustainable development that is promised on achieving an upper middle income society,” he said.
Parliament has since conducted public consultations on the Constitutional Amendment No.3 Bill, with submissions continuing ahead of debate in the National Assembly.
