A 29-year-old car dealer from Harare has appeared in court after allegedly defrauding a client of more than US$60 000 in a botched vehicle sale deal.

Tendai Njowa is accused of duping Ranganai Velinya (38) after converting proceeds from the sale of two Toyota Hilux D4D vehicles to personal use.

The court heard that Velinya made efforts to recover his money, but the accused allegedly issued repeated assurances before becoming evasive.

Njowa was granted US$200 bail on Thursday and is expected to return to court on May 14.
