The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has impounded more than 80 vehicles without number plates in Zvishavane and Mberengwa as part of a nationwide operation to restore order and enhance road safety ahead of the Easter holidays.

The enforcement exercise targets all categories of vehicles, including private, company, government and public service vehicles, amid concerns over their use in criminal activities.

Speaking during a media briefing on Friday, ZRP Officer Commanding Zvishavane District, Chief Superintendent Enoch Chishiri said the police are intensifying efforts to safeguard the public during the busy holiday period.

“The operation covers all categories of vehicles, including private family cars, company vehicles, government vehicles and public service vehicles. Such vehicles were often used in crimes such as armed robberies, kidnappings, and hit-and-run accidents, as well as traffic violations, including driving against the flow of traffic, jumping red traffic lights and lane violations. We want to ensure public safety, especially during this Easter holiday. A lot happens, and we are equal to the task. We urge all motorists to cooperate with the Zimbabwe Republic Police during this operation for the effective maintenance of law and order,” he said.

The crackdown forms part of broader efforts by authorities to curb crime and enforce compliance with road traffic regulations during one of the country’s busiest travel periods.
