PRESIDENT Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa says government policies are continuing to deliver tangible economic gains, driving growth and improving the quality of life for citizens.

He made the remarks while addressing the 391st ZANU PF Politburo meeting held in Harare this Wednesday.

The President highlighted progress in key sectors, particularly agriculture and mining, noting expectations of another strong harvest season.

“On the economic front, the ZANU PF-led Government policies have continued to bear tangible results, particularly in the agricultural sector, where the country is now expected to record another high and successful harvest. In further support of the sector, the ZANU PF Government has approved the review of licences, permits, levies and fees in key agricultural sub-sectors as part of broader business reforms aimed at promoting the ease of doing business in Zimbabwe,” he said.

He added that measures are being implemented to ensure value addition and beneficiation of mineral resources in line with resolutions from the party’s 22nd National People’s Conference.

“In line with the resolutions made at last year’s 22nd National People’s Conference, Government has put in place measures to guarantee that our rich mineral resources are beneficiated and value added within our country, for maximum benefits to the economy and our people. Meanwhile, we continue to register steady and encouraging growth in other key sectors of the economy, such as tourism, manufacturing and the construction industry, among others.”

Turning to healthcare, President Dr Mnangagwa reaffirmed Government’s commitment to improving service delivery and expanding access to quality care.

“My administration continues to deploy a multiplicity of strategies towards universal access to quality, affordable, and comprehensive services. We are resolute in our quest to increase robust public health institutions which have modern infrastructure, supported by domestic resource mobilisation, innovation, and the local manufacturing of medicines and medical supplies. In this spirit, I was pleased to officiate at the Ingutsheni Central Hospital Fundraising Initiative last week, where resources were mobilised to immediately revamp that critical public mental health facility. The countrywide rehabilitation of other health institutions is ongoing.”

On global affairs, the President said Zimbabwe is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and continues to advocate for diplomacy and dialogue.

“Our country firmly believes that dialogue, diplomacy and multilateral cooperation remain the sustainable pathway to achieving lasting global peace, development and prosperity for all nations. Our ZANU PF-led Government has put in place measures to de-risk our country, with regard to energy security and the supply chain of essential commodities.”

President Dr Mnangagwa emphasised that meeting citizens’ needs remains central to Government policy.

“All Politburo Secretaries are directed to work diligently and play their part to implement the decisions of the party. In all that we do, our national interests and the ongoing quest to improve the quality of life of our people remain our key motivation. There must be no vacillation in this respect,” he said.

The Politburo also reviewed preparations for the 46th Independence Day celebrations, set to be held at Maphisa Business Centre in Matabeleland South.
