HARARE has become the centre of school athletics this week as athletes from across the country gather at Prince Edward High School grounds for the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) athletics national finals.

The two-day tournament serves as a qualifier for the prestigious Coca-Cola Four-Minute Mile, a flagship event linked to the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF). Competitors will showcase their talent in middle-distance events, aiming for a spot in the semi-finals at White City Stadium in Bulawayo.

Winners from the semi-finals will advance to the final, scheduled for the last day of the ZITF next month. To qualify, athletes must complete the race in under 4 minutes and 31 seconds.

Defending champion Wellington Varevi, representing Black Rhinos, will be seeking to retain his title after clocking 4 minutes 28.81 seconds last year.
