A self-proclaimed prophet from Harare appeared in court Monday, facing charges of attempted rape after a woman alleged he tried to assault her during a spiritual ritual.
Osward Kadatoma (37), of Budiriro 3, appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court facing allegations of attempting to rape a congregant. It is the State’s case that the complainant had previously received spiritual assistance from Kadatoma at her family home in Warren Park, where he conducted prayer sessions.
The court heard that on one occasion in 2023, Kadatoma visited the complainant at her residence in Tynwald South, claiming he intended to pray for her.
It is alleged that he later took the complainant to her bedroom, where he attempted to rape her under the pretext of cleansing her from goblins.
The complainant subsequently reported the matter to her brother, who advised her to file a police report.
Kadatoma was granted US$100 bail and is expected to return to court on April 10.
