THE road to the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa Games (COSASSA) Games begins this Wednesday, with the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) hosting its national athletics finals at Prince Edward High School.
The two-day competition will serve as a selection platform for Zimbabwe’s squad to the regional showcase, with a focus on Under-18 and Under-16 athletes.
NASH president Cephas Mutumhe said all preparations are in place, with athletes expected to arrive ahead of the start of competition on Wednesday.
”The National Association of Secondary Heads is set to host its national athletics competitions here in Harare. We expect athletes to start arriving on Tuesday, with competition running from Wednesday into Thursday. We are confident that the stage is set for the athletes to showcase their talent under this year’s theme — equip, educate and empower in the fight against drug abuse. This is a very important message as we encourage our learners to stay away from drugs. The same platform will also be used to select the NASH team that will represent Zimbabwe at the regional COSASSA Games, focusing on Under-18 and Under-16 age groups. This is a critical pathway, as it contributes to national team selection beyond NASH.”
Mashonaland West, dominant in recent editions, will be aiming to maintain its stronghold, but faces increased competition from the country’s other nine provinces.
The COSASSA Games are scheduled for August, with the host nation yet to be announced.
