THE Second Republic’s efforts to improve efficiency and quality service delivery in local authorities continue to gain momentum, with Insiza and Umzingwane Rural District Councils commissioning new road equipment.
In line with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which prioritises economic growth and public sector efficiency, Government also commissioned fire engines and more than 50 motorcycles for councillors in the two districts.
The equipment is expected to strengthen service delivery and improve infrastructure maintenance in the councils.
“As we are all aware, local authorities exist primarily to deliver essential services to their communities. It is therefore imperative that they are adequately equipped to effectively discharge this mandate. Infrastructure remains the backbone of our national economy, and without reliable and well-maintained road networks, sustainable development, commerce, and industry cannot flourish,” Minister of Local Government and Public Works Honourable Daniel Garwe said.
The local leadership is convinced the equipment has come at an opportune time when the province is involved in major construction works under the Independence legacy projects initiative.
“On behalf of the province, we extend our sincere gratitude to the Honourable Minister for personally spearheading this impactful initiative. This commissioning is not merely about receiving a backhoe loader, a fire engine, and councillors’ motorbikes, but about making a deliberate investment in building strong institutions, enhancing service delivery, and driving sustainable development in Umzingwane District and throughout Matabeleland South Province,” Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Albert Nguluvhe said.
“We will put this equipment to good use,” Insiza RDC Chairperson Cde Luke Dube reassured.
“Councillors are the foot soldiers for our President, this is Vision 2030 at play, we are grateful to the government,” Umzingwane Constituency Officer Cde Cephas Moyo said.
The Second Republic, through NDS2, is on a drive to empower local authorities to ensure efficiency in service delivery.
