THE government, in collaboration with development partners, has launched a nationwide schools assessment and monitoring programme aimed at evaluating the functionality of learning institutions in line with education sector protocols.
Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Angeline Gata, led a joint schools inspection exercise in Harare this Thursday alongside development partners, following a similar visit to Chitungwiza on Wednesday.
The programme forms part of government efforts to transform the education sector through improved infrastructure, digital integration and enhanced teacher support.
Speaking during the inspections, Honourable Gata said the monitoring exercise is meant to assess whether education policies are being effectively implemented and aligned with the National Development Strategy 2.
“The main objective of the joint monitoring in our schools is to check on the set policies that are in place to see if they are working and if they are being followed and practised, and also to see if they are aligning with the NDS2. As a government, we are working on ensuring no child is left behind in terms of high-quality education that goes beyond the classroom.”
Stakeholders in the education sector have welcomed the initiative, citing improvements brought by the Heritage-Based Curriculum 5.0.
“We are seeing a change, especially with the introduction of the HBC 5.0. education system, we are seeing that the government is making such great strides to make sure that our students are equipped, not just mentally, even physically,” Warren Park D Primary School SDC chairperson, Mr Daniel Mumanyi said.
Under the heritage-based curriculum, the government aims to deliver quality, inclusive and competence-driven education for all learners.
