ZIMBABWE’s tourism sector is receiving heightened international attention following the passage of a Tesla Cybertruck through several of the country’s key destinations, including Victoria Falls.

The stainless-steel electric vehicle, manufactured by Tesla, Inc., has drawn widespread interest globally for its unconventional design and advanced technology. Its presence in Zimbabwe has generated substantial engagement across social media platforms, with content from the journey reportedly attracting more than 100 million views.

Tourism stakeholders say the digital exposure presents an opportunity to showcase Zimbabwe’s natural attractions, wildlife, and hospitality to a broader international audience.

“I would say come to Zimbabwe. The way we have been treated, the people, the things that we have seen so far, the Victoria Falls is fantastic. And mind you, we are only getting started, you still must see the rest of the country,” said vehicle driver Mr Lars Christiansen.

Another driver, Mr Alan’s Theory, highlighted the country’s hospitality and landscape. “We have experienced this country, mostly the people, how welcoming they are, the beauty of the nature, the animals and mostly, the interaction with the people has been amazing,” he said.

Beyond tourism promotion, the journey has also drawn attention to the feasibility of electric vehicle travel across Zimbabwe.

“We are also showing the world that it is possible to travel through Zimbabwe in an electric car, which is something that is going to come. But so far, people are afraid to cross this country because they think it is impossible, so we are proving that it is possible,” Mr Theory added.

Industry observers note that while the visit was not an official tourism campaign, the global digital traction aligns with Zimbabwe’s broader efforts to position itself as a competitive and accessible destination. The convergence of technology and travel narrative has amplified visibility for “Destination Zimbabwe”, reinforcing its appeal to both traditional and emerging tourism markets.

As the country continues to promote its diverse offerings from natural wonders to wildlife and cultural heritage, the unexpected arrival of the Cybertruck has underscored the role of digital platforms in shaping contemporary tourism exposure.
