THE first session of the ZANU PF strategic seminar for Central Committee Members began in Gweru this Thursday, with delegates reminded of their duty to uphold the party’s constitution and principles.
The four-day seminar features presentations from several party leaders, aimed at equipping Central Committee members with the knowledge and skills needed to execute their responsibilities effectively.
The keynote presentation was delivered by the party’s Secretary General, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, who outlined the qualities of leadership expected from Central Committee members.
“The Central Committee as a collective must demonstrate resolute and disciplined implementation of agreed programmes. To this end, members are expected to exhibit principled leadership, ensuring that party programmes are executed consistently and without fear or favour across all party structures. This calls for bold, determined and courageous leadership, characterised by constant supervision, oversight and a proactive drive to ensure that decisions of the party are fully implemented.”
Advocate Mudenda also stressed the role of the party in directing government business, noting that Central Committee members must be conversant with constitutional provisions.
“All central committee members must be knowledgeable about constitutional provisions relating to executive authority, parliamentary oversight, the independence and role of the judiciary, the system of devolution, electoral processes, public finance management and the bill of rights. This knowledge is essential for the party to maintain its leadership role in government effectively and to ensure that the state operates in line with the ideological aspirations and policy direction of ZANU PF as the governing party. We remain supreme to government structures and we provide them the necessary direction,” he said.
Thursday’s session sets the stage for Friday’s proceedings, which are expected to include participation from the party’s First Secretary and President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The four-day seminar, which concludes on Saturday, seeks to strengthen the capacity of Central Committee members and enhance the implementation of party directives across all levels.
