HIGHLANDERS Football Club has unveiled a new team bus donated by club benefactor Wicknell Chivhayo, marking a major boost for the Bulawayo giants as they celebrate their centenary year.

The handover ceremony was held at the Highlanders clubhouse on Thursday morning and was attended by club officials, players and supporters, with scenes of jubilation reflecting the significance of the donation to the Bosso family.

Supporters hailed the gesture as timely and transformative for the club.

“We are happy and want to thank Wicknell Chivhayo for this bus,” one supporter said, while another described it as “a great gift that we are proud to welcome”.

Highlanders vice-chairperson Fiso Siziba said the donation could not have come at a better time.

“This is the best birthday present we could ever dream of as we turn 100 years,” Siziba said.

Chivhayo was represented at the event by Jabulani Nkomo, who said the businessman’s support for Bosso was rooted in his deep affection for the club and his respect for the late Vice-President Cde Landa John Nkomo.

“He asked me to play the role that I am fulfilling because of his love for Highlanders. This is a legacy he wants, and he is committed to the club,” Nkomo said.

The bus donation follows broader financial backing from Chivhayo, who has also availed US$300 000 for player recruitment and committed to funding the club’s new technical team led by former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari.

With renewed financial support and fresh leadership, optimism is growing that Highlanders’ centenary season could mark the beginning of a turnaround in the club’s fortunes.
