RECENTLY promoted Central Region Division One side Shurugwi United have promised their legion of fans top-flight football as they step up preparations for the upcoming season.
The demise of Nichrut FC in 2018 left football supporters in the mineral-rich town of Shurugwi starved of competitive football.
The football-loving community has largely been entertained by amateur competitions prior to the formation of Shurugwi United in 2024.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of FC Hunters, the new Central Region outfit has begun preparations for the upcoming season with bold ambitions of securing promotion to the premiership.
“We have been training since December, and it is now over a month of preparation. The morale and coordination in the team are very high. We fear nobody, and we are ready to fight when the season starts,” player William Mandebvu said.
“As Shurugwi United FC, we are declaring our Central Region Division One League title ambitions. We are in it to win. The club is challenging for the championship to secure promotion into the premiership. That is our ultimate goal this season as we knock on the doors of top-flight football,” Shurugwi United FC Coach, Eddmore Phiri stated.
As the countdown to the start of the Central Region Soccer League continues, football fans in Shurugwi are anticipating a season filled with excitement, drama and memorable encounters.
