Zim to send humanitarian aid to Malawi, Mozambique after devastating floods

Story by Peter Chivhima

THE Government will dispatch humanitarian aid to Malawi and Mozambique this Friday, following a directive by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to assist the two neighbouring countries and activate domestic flood preparedness measures.

Hundreds of people have been killed by floods, with Mozambique’s National Institute for Disaster Management reporting over 100 deaths and the displacement of thousands since the start of the rainy season in October.

The Zimbabwean government has also deployed rescue teams and helicopters from the Air Force of Zimbabwe to assist in evacuation efforts.

Zimbabwe is also on high alert in case floods are experienced locally, with the Head of State also directing the CPU to activate all systems and dispatch 50 tonnes of grain to each province as part of the contingency plan.
